We are what we think. What we think is determined by our ability to learn; and the basis for learning is established in our first 1,000 days of life. It is during those early years that we lay the foundation for endless possibilities.
A key part of my role as the Innovation Edge Portfolio Manager is challenging our investees to apply their skills to a space that is often unfamiliar to them. This involves helping them to re- imagine their ideas to solve challenges that they did not necessarily set out to solve. This is frequently where the real innovation happens.
I spent several years in Amsterdam, where I worked in both the private and public sectors across various industries, from financial services to the telecom industry. I returned to South Africa in 2009 and have, among many things, been involved in setting up a startup; corporate consulting and volunteer counselling at a trauma centre for abused women. I also worked as a Portfolio Manager in the impact investing and venture philanthropy arena.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, a Psychology Honours and a Masters in Financial Management. Sustainable business practices, learning, human empowerment and design are all areas I am incredibly passionate about. I am fortunate to be able to fulfill all of these passions in my work at Innovation Edge.
I believe that innovation happens when there is curiosity, creed and need!
