Senior Program Officer: Open Society Early Childhood
Maniza Ntekim joined the Open Society Early Childhood Program as a senior program officer in March 2015. Maniza has worked in the education and international development field for several different organizations.
She taught in Rwanda before joining UNICEF Rwanda as its acting chief of education and as an education specialist where she oversaw UNICEF’s education programs. She also co-chaired the Education Development Partners’ Group and the One UN Education Working Group. In Tanzania, Maniza worked for UNICEF Tanzania as the education specialist managing UNICEF’s integrated early childhood program and its in-service education and training program for pre-primary and primary school teachers. Maniza has worked as a consultant for UNESCO and for bilateral aid agencies including DfID (U.K.), JICA (Japan), and Save the Children UK, covering all sub-sectors of education from pre-primary education to higher education. She joined Open Society after working for the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation as an education manager.
Maniza started her career as a policy advisor at the Confederation of British Industry working on learning and skills for employability. Before leaving for Rwanda she worked for Amnesty International UK with responsibility for leading the organization’s lobbying of U.K. parliamentarians, ministers, and civil servants on human rights.
