One of the most significant challenges to the co-ordinated delivery of ECD services lies in the lack of access to crucial data – on service need, access and quality. ECD service providers, policy makers and planners need accessible and accurate information in order to make the best possible decisions on where and how to allocate limited resources.
Mapping data in accessible ways also helps to identify where the data gaps are and can stimulate efforts to address these gaps.
In partnership with Ilifa Labantwana, Innovation Edge has supported the development of WaziECD, an online platform which collates available data on ECD services and allows users to search based on location as well as by data type.
WaziECD targets a broad range of users, with very different competency levels when it comes to interpreting data. In order to motivate and facilitate the use of WaziECD for decision making at all levels, Innovation Edge is supporting the gamification of the platform.
Elements associated with game playing (such as point scoring, competition, and level-by-level improvement) become part of the new interface. The gamification of the system means that users will improve their skill-sets (particularly planning) while being engaged with their subject matter.
The gamification of an already existing platform means that users can use existing data in a way that benefits them most. Bringing elements of game-playing into a sometimes inaccessible system helps users to look at it in a new way, and get fresh insights into key information.
The use of data in bringing about social change is an exciting and constantly changing field, and Game Plan aims to show how practically these changes can be made.
