Ubuntu Hub is a digital platform developed by Ubuntu Education to support the professional growth of educators and early learning practitioners across Africa. The platform creates a central, accessible space for educators and practitioners to connect, collaborate, and grow through courses, training, workshops, mentorship, and peer support. These opportunities equip them with the skills and confidence needed to enhance their teaching and improve early learning experiences for children.
Ubuntu Hub is curated by educators, for educators, with a strong emphasis on building a sense of community and shared learning.
The Problem
South Africa’s Early Childhood Education sector faces serious challenges, most notably, a shortage of skilled early learning practitioners and limited access to structured, affordable professional development. Practitioners in rural and underserved communities often struggle to find reliable training or support, and many existing online platforms are either inaccessible or unmoderated, leading to disengagement and frustration.
This lack or limited of support not only stifles practitioners’ growth but also impacts the quality of education children receive in their most critical developmental years.
The Innovation
Ubuntu Hub addresses these challenges by providing a moderated, educator-led digital platform tailored to the unique needs of early learning practitioners. It offers a positive, solution-oriented space that prioritises learning, encouragement, and growth.
Practitioners can access curated resources in one place, reducing the fragmentation they often face when searching for training and development opportunities. Ubuntu Hub also facilitates peer-to-peer learning and mentorship, helping practitioners feel less isolated and more empowered in their roles.
As a Pan-African platform, it offers exposure to insights from across the continent, enriching the professional experience and building a broader community of practice.
How It Works
Practitioners register on Ubuntu Hub and gain access to a growing library of professional development tools and resources, including workshops, training modules, peer support, and mentorship.
The platform is designed to be easy to navigate and relatable, ensuring practitioners feel at home and confident in engaging with the content. Moderation by fellow educators helps keep conversations constructive and relevant. The emphasis on community makes it more than a learning space, but a professional support network.
Why we Invested
We believe that when early learning practitioners are equipped with the right tools, knowledge, and skills to support their professional development, they become catalysts for change, ultimately helping children learn, grow and thrive.
Our investment in Ubuntu Hub supports the development of a vibrant, well-supported community of practitioners who can improve the quality of early learning across the country. We also aim to help grow the platform’s reach and deepen engagement, so that more early learning practitioners, especially those in low-resourced areas, can benefit from what it offers. As part of this, IE will support the team in optimising their WhatsApp channel to make delivery even more accessible and impactful.
The Project Team

Their team brings deep knowledge of the education landscape, and their platform, Ubuntu Hub, is run by educators who understand the day-to-day challenges of the profession. Their work is grounded in community, collaboration, and the belief that empowered educators transform teaching and learning experiences.
